Psalm 46
To the chief Musician for the sons of
Korah,
A Song for Girls. 1
God is our refuge and strength, a very
present help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the
mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled,
though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.
4
There is a river, the streams whereof
shall make glad the city of God,
the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved:
God shall help her, and that right early.
6
The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved:
he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Come, behold the works of the LORD,
what desolations he hath made in the earth.
He makes wars to cease unto the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow, and cuts the spear in sunder;
he burns the chariot in the fire.
10
Be still, and know that I am God:
I will be exalted among the heathen,
I will be exalted in the earth.
The of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
________________________________________________
This is no
small thing we are speaking of here. Mountains carried into the midst of
the sea, tsunamis roaring through the coast lands. Can I honestly say I
will not fear in such a time? The only way this is possible is to have
come to the place where physical life and safety no longer matters. This
psalm is set well into the future.
We read in awe of the city of God in the book of
Revelation, but it was not a new idea. It is right here in the Psalms.
And he showed me a pure river of water of life,
clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the
Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the
river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of
fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the
tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more
curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his
servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name
shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and
they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God
giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever
(Revelation 22:1-5).
The Lord of hosts apparently
is quite literally with us at the time of this psalm. |

Youth in Action
Never in our history have young people needed Bible learning and Christian
youth programs more than they do today.
